Mysore (Karnataka)

Mysore is now currently being visited by many tourists than before because of the recent developments in the city. There are some IT giants who made this place as a major hub for software and service delivery. There are so many attractions in Mysore which most of the people love to visit on weekend breaks. Mysore is only 140 kms from Bangalore so many people visit Mysore as a day trip and then return back to Bangalore. The Bangalore to Mysore is a top class Highway route where the techies enjoy this road by traveling in Bike or by Car as a day out. In this route, green scenic view and many hotels which help you to fill your green thirst and to fill your stomach. Other than this road way, there are also frequent trains which help you to travel Mysore from Bangalore or from anywhere in India. The temperature and rainfall are very moderate so that Mysore can be enjoyed in all the season times. I had been to Mysore more than 5 to 6 times just as a weekend break.

The very famous tourist spots in Mysore are Mysore palace, KRS dam (at Brindavan Gardern), Chamundi temple, GRS fantasy theme park, Jagmohan palace, Zoo, Museums, Cauvery art gallery etc. Other than these places, nearby to Mysore there are few other tourist spots like Bylakupee (a Tibetan’s place), Tala cauvery, Coorg, Srirangapatna, shivasamudram. Apart from this Mysore is famous for its Dasara festival, this festival will happen some where in the month of October every year at the time of Vijalaksmi pooja. There are also few special things in Mysore which are the Mysore silk which is very famous material available in nominal prices in Mysore, Mysore is rich in coffee power export and sandalwood works. There is a History where the Udayar family who was ruling Mysore were very rich, they has built the Great Place in Mysore and other palaces around Mysore. There are also some Tomb’s and rich forts in Mysore and BangalorePhilomena Church is one of the beautiful places to be visited. There are also so many places around Mysore which I will post soon and explain more.

Lalbagh garden, Bangalore

This is a very big and wide spread park or garden in Bangalore. I had been to this place more than 5 times, but still I don’t know if I had completed seeing the complete garden. I was stunned first time when I visited this garden; because I never knew before, if there can be any garden which can be maintained in the center of the city that too in a Silicon city like Bangalore. This park was developed in the period of Hyder Ali and later it was completed in the period of his son Tipu sultan. It is more than 200 acre land maintained in the city. There are so many trees which are very old, big water pool with lots of fishes in that, flower garden, Glass House, lotus pond, Aquarium, rose garden, silk cotton tree, watch tree, Dove cot, Bonsai garden, Kempe Gowda tower, Japanese garden etc.

A very good thing in this is garden is a wonderful maintenance being carried out daily by the Government of Karnataka. I had even seen instances like the shedding of leaves are also removed properly on the daily basis. There is also a small car operated in this garden which the senior citizen and physically challenged can make use of it. Also, there are fresh juice shops available outside the park by the government is also so good. There is also so many morning walkers who grequently visit this garden to keep good health. Overall this is the best place in bangalore to chill out with the nature.

Marina Beach (Chennai or Madras)

My frequent place to visit in Chennai is Marina beach. Whenever I am in Chennai, I some how make some free time and visit the Marina beach. This is a very big beach stretched for about 13 Kms long. This beach is considered as world’s second longest beach according to sources from wikipedia. So what there so special in this beach? There is nothing specific to say special in this beach. The sea and the great view of Bay of Bengal and the ups and downs of waves which make your mind light as air. Marina beach is a best place in Chennai for the locales and a very cost effective place for all kind of people. There are no entry fees and there is no any other extra cost. There will lot of standing shops which include corn shops, bajji(an eatable made out of besan flour dipped in oil) shop, small tea shops, toy shops, balloon shops etc. In general you can see lot of kids and even elders fly knight in this place. Another special thing about the beach is the statues which are placed on the long stretch. There are statues like Mahatma Gandhi, Kannaki, labor statue, thiruvalluar etc. Here you can also see the samadhis (tomb) of MGR, Rajiv Gandhi, Anna and few other leaders. To honor the leaders and their thoughts will remain forever in people mind for generations. There are also many buildings opposite to the beach like university of madras, Queen Mary's college, Police commisioner office, presidency collage, PWD office and so on.

Mahabalipuram Or Mamallapuram

It’s been very long time that I had not posted anything. I was very busy with my office work and year end closure. I had been to Mahabalipuram a short day trip from Chennai (Previously known as Madras).

Mahabalipuram is very famous for its Art and Architecture, it is also called as Mamallapuram; all these were built by Pallavas. The name of the place is coined from the pallava king Mamalla. The Art and Architecture are very ancient built some where in 6^th or 7^th century. It is been approved by UNESCO as a word heritage center. The very famous shore temples and five rathas are unique and very exciting to see. I had been visiting this place from my childhood, as my father worked in a bank there. But then my current visit was very exciting and I could able to grab some snaps. The best things here are the statues in each place is been carved in one stone. The very famous site seeing places around are the shore temple very near to the sea, five rathas, elephant and other animals carved in granite, Arjuna penance, light house, seven pagodas by the sea, butter ball etc. This time when we went there was a dance festival, which was very awesome. I could able to see the authentic Indian dances which includes barathanatiyam, folk and other carnatic song events. There are more number of foreigners from different country visiting this place and you could even say it is next to Goa. My humble advice is not to take a guide here and not to encourage any beggars. If you have any contacts with the local tour operators with the help of them you can fix the guide and also there is some government of Tamil Nadu nominated guides, who help in good site seeing.

Thanjavur or Tanjore

This year beginning, I had visited Thanjavur (Tanjore) just to see the beauty of the Peruvudaiyar temple or Brihadeeswarar temple. I had been to this temple even before but now my visit was little different, it is because this time when I went to this temple I have already finished reading the novel Ponniyin selvan by Kalki. The novel narrates the beauty of thanjavur and about great king Raja Raja Cholan. The novel portraits the king, the kingdom and the beauty of the places, every episode takes us to great mood. After reading this novel, I had planned to go Thanjavur, thinking how the great king Raja Raja Cholan could manage to built such a great temple with huge Bull, the huge lingam (Form of Lord shiva being worshipped in Tamilnadu, India) and the huge raja gopura. The temple itself tells us how the Chola’s were powerful in wealth and in architecture.

The entrance of the temple has the great view of two gopura’s. It is a very good science, when you enter in to the Gopura, you would feel the Air breeze which is very pleasant. Around the temple there is a huge wall, like you see in other forts and a water cannel. It is been said that the water in the cannel was filled with crocodiles in olden times to prevent the anonymous people entering in to the temple premises. The first two gopura which in general people used to enter the temple has the five storied structure. After you cross these you could see the great view of the temple, the Nandi (Bull) and along with those small shrines here and there around the temple. The raja gopura is hallowing in the center and around gopura you could see the stories depicted in stone sculptures about Lord Shiva (Siva). You can also see the writings in the temple tell about the real life incidents during the Chola’s period. The temple itself has a great ambiance inside and the recent maintenance of the park and the rework of the damaged sculptures happening daily to keep the temple’s look beauty. There were so many other country (foreigners) visitors who visit the temple and the museum near by.
